Our data protection team provides expert legal advice on a wide range of data privacy and information rights issues. We enable clients to understand their obligations in clear terms, apply GDPR requirements in their handling of personal information, maintain appropriate systems and records, and respond to time critical events such as a data breach or the exercise by a data subject of individual rights (eg subject access).
Our practice is divided into three main areas: audit & compliance support, advice and training. Emphasis is placed on practical application of the legal requirements and identifying solutions which are commercially workable as well as technically sound. Audit & Compliance Support.
We undertake GDPR audits, identify risk areas and help clients implement enhancements to their data protection programmes. This includes drafting procedures, privacy notices and other relevant materials; advising on data governance matters and ensuring systems and organisational culture are geared up to support ongoing compliance.
Advice.
We assist clients with all aspects of data protection as it affects their businesses including registration with the Information Commissioner, record retention, impact assessments and transfers of personal information. We also provide rapid support in the event of a data breach to enable effective and appropriate management of the situation as well as advice on subject access and requests by data subjects to correct data or be forgotten etc. Additionally, we cover digital commerce, marketing and website privacy.
Training.
Staff training and an organisational culture that reinforces good data handling practices are essential to achieving legal compliance and better overall risk management. We offer tailored courses for all levels including basic awareness and refresher sessions, more detailed courses for employees whose job role warrants additional focus on this area, through to comprehensive training for data protection officers and compliance leads. Seminars and updates are also provided by agreement to assist clients with keeping on top of GDPR compliance.
