Leading independent Isle of Man law firm, Cains, is delighted to announce it is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year and, to launch the celebrations, they were crowned ‘Law Firm of the Year – Isle of Man’ at the Citywealth International Financial Centre (IFC) Awards 2024 in London last night.
Now in its 13th year, the Citywealth IFC Awards were established to highlight the excellence of advisers and managers in the private wealth sector in major international financial centres. Judged by an international panel of highly respected practitioners from all private wealth sectors covering all the jurisdictions, winners are those deemed to have excelled in achievement, innovation, expertise, and service.
Cains’ Managing Director Tim Shepherd, alongside Director Scott Leonard-Morgan, attended the award ceremony on 24th January at the Leonardo Royal London and received the award from host, journalist Tim Willcox.
This industry recognition marks the start of a year-long celebration to recognise 125 years of legal expertise, an important milestone in Cains’ history.
Cains’ journey began in 1899 and it is now one of the longest established and largest law firms on the Isle of Man, serving as trusted legal adviser to local and international clients for 125 years.
It was founded by Douglas born Thomas William Cain, who started working in the family joinery business, before re-entering education at King Williams Collage followed by the University of Cambridge, returning to the Isle of Man and starting the law firm T W Cains. Over the years he was joined by his son James Arther Cain and grandson Thomas William Cain (known as William) to become the family law practice T W Cains & Sons based on Athol Street.
In 1990 the firm was acquired and registered as Cains as we know it today, moving from its Athol Street home to the prominent Fort Anne building in 2010.
Today, Cains provides a fully integrated package of services including legal, accounting, compliance, listing, management, governance, regulatory and consulting services. It has built a reputation in the Isle of Man for superior service, supported by the firm’s seamless technology, industry experience and a commercially minded ethos which sets it apart.
Tim Shepherd, Managing Director of Cains, said: “It is with great pride that we are able to kick off our 125th anniversary celebrations with such a prestigious award win. Being named ‘Law Firm of the Year – Isle of Man’ is a great honour given the level of legal expertise on the Island.
“Both the award and the 125th milestone is testament to not only the unparalleled experience we have within the team but our unwavering commitment to excellence and delivering the highest level of service to our clients both local and internationally.”
“Looking ahead, we have ambitious growth plans and are committed to investing in our people and our key systems, as well as expanding our service offerings, including launching our Accounting, Risk and Compliance and Regulatory consultancy services.”
“We are grateful to our clients for their ongoing support and to our staff for their commitment to Cains, without which none of this would have been possible. ”
