Cains is delighted to have acted for JT Group and infrastructure fund manager CVC DIF in connection with JT Group’s acquisition of Manx Telecom Group, the Isle of Man’s leading telecommunications provider.

The transaction marks a significant milestone in the telecoms landscape across the UK Crown Dependencies. The acquisition positions JT Group as the largest provider across Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, with a shared commitment to delivering resilient and secure next-generation digital networks.

Cains’ multidisciplinary team was led by Scott Leonard-Morgan, Head of Corporate, supported by senior corporate lawyer Richard Kniveton. Alex Poole-Wilson and Holly McGarrigle advised on the real estate aspects of the deal, and Katherine Sheerin and Ruby Roberts led on employment and data protection matters. The team worked with UK Counsel, DLA Piper.

Scott Leonard-Morgan commented:

“We are delighted to have advised JT Group and CVC DIF on this landmark transaction. The acquisition represents a transformative step for telecoms in the Crown Dependencies and we are pleased to have played a key role in facilitating a deal that promises long-term benefits for the Isle of Man’s digital future.”

The acquisition has been welcomed by both companies’ leadership teams, with JT Group CEO Daragh McDermott describing the deal as a “perfect fit” due to the shared values and ambitions of the two organisations. Manx Telecom CEO Gary Lamb said the move was an “exciting new chapter” for the business.

The deal was announced on Friday 24 October and is subject to relevant regulatory approvals.
